Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), in collaboration with the SEAMEO STEM-ED Center, successfully organized the Experts Meeting and Knowledge Exchange Forum on STEM Education (Day 3) on 7 February 2024. The event brought together STEM and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) experts from across ASEAN to exchange knowledge and discuss strategies for integrating STEM principles into vocational and technical education systems.

The meeting aimed to develop practical guidelines that enhance the quality and relevance of professional education, equipping graduates with the skills required to meet new educational standards and respond to the evolving demands of the 21st-century workforce.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Siraprapa Chainetr, Assistant to the President of RMUTL, presided over the opening ceremony and warmly welcomed participants at the Thongkwao Conference Room and through online platforms. The forum featured international presentations on “STEM in TVET” and collaborative discussions that explored innovative teaching models and best practices across ASEAN member countries.

A highlight of the session was the panel discussion on “Strengthening Women’s Leadership in STEM at the ASEAN Level.” The dialogue emphasized the need to empower women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, promoting inclusive participation, leadership, and equal access to opportunities in these traditionally male-dominated fields.

Through this initiative, RMUTL and SEAMEO STEM-ED actively contribute to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by:

  • Encouraging female representation and leadership in STEM and technical education sectors.

  • Providing a platform for regional collaboration and knowledge exchange on gender-responsive STEM education policies.

  • Supporting educational practices that empower women to contribute to innovation and sustainable development.
