Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) proudly embraces the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7, which aims to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development. This includes education for sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and its contribution to sustainable development.
In line with this commitment — and in strong support of SDG 5: Gender Equality — RMUTL participated in Chiang Mai Pride 2024, the first official Pride event in Thailand. The university’s delegation, comprising staff members, the student council, and student clubs, joined the celebration held from 1–2 June 2024, along the route from Chang Klan Road (Night Bazaar) to Tha Phae Gate in Chiang Mai.
This participation demonstrates RMUTL’s dedication to promoting equal rights, inclusivity, and safety for all, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. Pride Month, celebrated globally each June, honors the resilience and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community while commemorating the struggle for equality and protection from discrimination and violence.
The event featured the Pride Parade, live music, performances by LGBTQ+ groups, the Chiang Mai Pride Ambassador 2024 contest, and other cultural showcases. A major highlight was the collective call for the Thai government to enact laws protecting human rights and promoting gender equality — reinforcing RMUTL’s advocacy for diversity, inclusion, and empowerment.
Through active engagement in Pride Month, RMUTL strengthens its alignment with SDG 5 by fostering an academic environment that:
-
Encourages gender equality and inclusivity in education and community life.
-
Raises awareness of human rights and social justice among students and staff.
-
Promotes diversity and respect as core institutional values contributing to sustainable development.
By integrating these principles into its learning and community engagement, RMUTL not only supports SDG 4.7 and SDG 5 but also contributes to its recognition in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings as a university that actively promotes equality, inclusivity, and sustainability.
