To advance zero hunger, RMUTL addresses student food insecurity through both financial and sustainable food system solutions. The university maintains affordable tuition rates and offers extensive scholarships and loans including the Equitable Education Fund (EEF) and Student Loan Fund—to ensure access to education, food, and housing for all learners. RMUTL also promotes campus food self-sufficiency through integrated agricultural systems that grow rice, fruits, vegetables, and livestock. These products support student meals and local food vendors, helping keep prices low and nutrition high. By distributing seeds to students and nearby communities, the university strengthens local food resilience and preserves nutrient-rich plant varieties, contributing to sustainable agriculture and long-term food security.

Advancing Zero Hunger Through Sustainable Agriculture

RMUTL continues to promote Zero Hunger (SDG 2) by developing agricultural areas under the “New Theory” farming approach and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. The project aims to maximize land use, strengthen food security, and model community well-being through collaboration with local stakeholders.

At the Doi Saket campus, the revitalized Khok Nong Na area serves as a learning center for sustainable farming, where students—especially those supported by the Equitable Education Fund (EEF)—work alongside farmers in:

  • Post-rice crop cultivation of tiger-striped beans for community food sharing and seed preservation.
  • Integrated and safe agriculture, producing vegetables and eggs to reduce student food costs and generate income.
  • Organic rice farming under the “Rajamangala Unity, Rice for the Nation” project, providing nutritious meals and donations to disadvantaged groups.

This initiative enhances local food systems, promotes self-reliance, and supports sustainable, hunger-free communities.

On November 19, 2024, RMUTL’s “Under the Royal Patronage” program held the Na Pun Suk: Sharing Happiness in the Fields event at the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center, Doi Saket campus, where participants planted “Rak” trees to honor the King and promote national well-being.

The event brought together RMUTL faculty and students for hands-on learning and knowledge transfer in sustainable agriculture, fostering future food security careers. Participants harvested rice grown through the Sufficiency Economy Learning Initiative, which supports Zero Hunger (SDG 2) by producing rice seeds for the next season and providing food for students and staff facing food insecurity. Surplus rice was shared with disadvantaged community members and local farmers, strengthening local food systems and promoting sustainable production and consumption.
