In a progressive move towards inclusivity and gender equality, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) has implemented a landmark policy allowing transgender and gender-diverse students to choose graduation attire that aligns with their gender identity. This initiative marks a significant step in ensuring that all graduates can express their authentic selves during one of the most meaningful milestones in their academic lives.

The Gender-Inclusive Graduation Attire Policy reflects RMUTL’s commitment to upholding the principles of equality, respect, and human dignity. By accommodating diverse gender identities in official university ceremonies, RMUTL fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and mutual respect within its academic community. This policy serves as a tangible expression of the university’s dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all students—one that celebrates diversity as a source of strength and unity.

According to the official university regulations, graduates and postgraduates whose gender identity or expression differs from their sex at birth and who wish to dress according to their current gender expression may do so through an official request process. Applicants must submit a written request in person at the Division of Student Development or the Education Division of their respective provincial campus on the day of reporting in person. The request form can be downloaded from https://graduation.rmutl.ac.th/. Each campus division compiles and reviews the applications before forwarding them to the Ceremony Department for consideration and approval, which must be completed by 12 February 2025. Once permission is granted, graduates must adhere strictly to the attire guidelines issued by the Ceremony Department to ensure uniformity and respect for the royal conferment ceremony.

By formalizing this policy within the official graduation announcement, RMUTL demonstrates that gender inclusivity is not merely encouraged but institutionally protected. This regulation aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and showcases the university’s leadership in promoting social inclusion and equal rights in higher education.
