RMUTL provides comprehensive psychological services, wellness outreach, and stress management activities that encourage a healthy, balanced lifestyle across all campuses. RMUTL believes that academic success and personal growth are inseparable from emotional stability and positive mental health. Through professional counselling, inclusive wellness programmes, and proactive community engagement, the university ensures that every individual receives the care, understanding, and encouragement needed to thrive.
Comprehensive Mental Health Support for Students
RMUTL recognizes that today’s university students face diverse challenges — from academic pressure and financial concerns to the emotional effects of social and technological change. To address these realities, RMUTL established a dedicated Psychological Counselling Service under the Student Development Division.
According to the official RMUTL Health Service page, the Psychologist and Counselling Service provides professional guidance in a private, confidential setting. Students can access individual or group sessions focused on:
- Coping with stress, anxiety, and depression
- Building self-confidence and emotional resilience
- Managing interpersonal or family relationships
- Balancing study, life, and personal growth
The service offers free access for all RMUTL students. The counselling room, located on the ground floor of the General Education Building, operates as a walk-in centre every Monday and Tuesday (9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.), with an option to book appointments on other weekdays via the Facebook page “ดูแลสุขภาพใจ มทร.ล้านนา (RMUTL Student Care)”.
Professional psychologists from RMUTL’s student support staff and visiting experts from Chiang Mai hospitals collaborate to deliver these services, ensuring students have access to qualified mental health professionals.
Building a Culture of Care through the “Take Care of Your Mind” Initiative
To normalize mental health care and reduce stigma, RMUTL actively promotes its “ดูแลสุขภาพใจ มทร.ล้านนา” (translated as “Take Care of Your Mind at RMUTL”) campaign through social media and on-campus activities. The initiative encourages open discussion about emotional well-being, stress management, and self-awareness. Posts include motivational quotes, self-care tips, and educational materials on identifying early signs of emotional burnout.
In collaboration with the RMUTL Student Development Division, the campaign organizes wellness sessions such as Mindful Breaks and Relax Corners during examination weeks, where students can practice breathing techniques, mindfulness, and light stretching in safe, supportive environments.
Supporting Mental Health for Staff and Academic Personnel
RMUTL extends its mental health strategy beyond students, recognizing that the well-being of academic and support staff is equally vital to a healthy university ecosystem.
Staff can access the same professional counselling and referral network offered to students. The First Aid and Health Promotion Office also coordinates with partner hospitals to provide mental-health consultations and stress management training for faculty members.
Regular wellness workshops—such as the “Healthy Body, Happy Mind” sessions and “Relax@Work” mindfulness breaks—are inclusive, allowing staff to join alongside students. These programmes foster work–life balance, emotional stability, and positive relationships within the workplace.
Through this integrated support model, RMUTL ensures that mental wellness becomes a shared institutional responsibility, creating an environment where both staff and students feel valued, understood, and supported.
Integration with On-Campus Health Services
RMUTL’s holistic mental health framework operates in harmony with its broader campus health services.
The Health Service Unit offers:
- A First Aid Room (open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) providing immediate care and triage for physical or psychosomatic conditions.
- Collaboration with local hospitals and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for students and staff requiring medical or psychological treatment.
- Wellness promotion through health screenings, vaccination drives, and educational campaigns about healthy habits, nutrition, and sleep.
This synergy ensures that mental and physical well-being are treated as interdependent, aligning with the university’s philosophy of “wellness as a way of life.”
Community Engagement and Mental Health Awareness
RMUTL’s mental health outreach extends beyond campus walls.
The university frequently partners with external institutions—including the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office, Nakornping Hospital, and volunteer organizations—to host mental wellness workshops, first aid training, and psychological first aid seminars for local communities.
These activities encourage knowledge-sharing and community resilience, helping reduce stigma surrounding mental health in Northern Thailand.
Moreover, through student volunteer projects, psychology interns and peer mentors are trained to identify signs of distress and provide basic peer support, creating a “buddy system” within student dormitories. This peer-led approach supports early detection and intervention, reinforcing the sustainability of RMUTL’s mental health initiatives.
