RMUTL Mobilizes Volunteers and Collaborates with the Nine Rajamangala Universities of Technology to Deliver 1,000 Vegetable Seed Kits for Flood Recovery in Southern Thailand
Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) supports food security through initiatives that improve access to food and promote sustainable food production. The university also extends assistance to communities affected by food insecurity and natural disasters. In December 2025, RMUTL mobilized volunteers to prepare and distribute 1,000 vegetable seed kits to flood-affected communities in southern Thailand, helping households restore local food production, access safe food, and reduce food expenses.

Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) organized the activity Packing Vegetable Seeds to Support Flood Recovery in Southern Thailand at the Rajamangala Pavilion on campus. The initiative prepared 1,000 vegetable seed kits for distribution to flood-affected communities in southern Thailand to help residents restore their livelihoods after the floodwaters recede.
For this initiative, the Agricultural Technology Research Institute, in collaboration with the Chaipattana Foundation at the Princess Paensiri Plant Variety Development Centre in Chiang Rai Province, provided high-quality seeds, including tomatoes, Chinese kale, and bok choy. These seeds will enable affected households to grow their own vegetables, establish a reliable source of safe food, and reduce household expenses over the long term.
Assistant Professor Dr. Annop Thatsanaudom, Acting President of RMUTL, stated that disaster assistance should go beyond immediate relief by empowering people to become self-reliant after a crisis. Vegetable seeds represent the starting point of recovery, helping families build sustainable food security.
RMUTL expressed its appreciation to all participating organizations, lecturers, staff, students, and volunteers who contributed to packing the seed kits. The initiative demonstrates the strength of the RMUTL community and its continued commitment to social assistance and recovery.
The university will subsequently deliver all 1,000 vegetable seed kits to flood-affected areas in southern Thailand, enabling communities to use them as soon as possible to restore local food production and livelihoods.

On 7 December 2025, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) continued its efforts to support flood recovery in southern Thailand. Associate Professor Dr. Pracha Yuenyongkul, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, assigned Assistant Professor Dr. Siraprapha Chainet, Director of the Office of the President, to coordinate the delivery of 1,000 vegetable seed kits to flood-affected communities, helping residents restore their livelihoods quickly and sustainably after the floodwaters receded.

This initiative is part of a collaborative effort among the nine Rajamangala Universities of Technology, which combine resources and agricultural expertise to assist people during crises. The seeds were provided by RMUTLs Agricultural Technology Research Institute in collaboration with the Chaipattana Foundation through the Chakrabhan Pensiri Plant Development Centre in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. The centre plays an important role in conserving and developing plant varieties in accordance with royal initiatives.
This collaboration demonstrates the education sectors commitment to public service and strengthening food security in disaster-affected communities. Through this initiative, RMUTL aims to help communities recover, become more resilient, and return to normal life as soon as possible.

On 16 July 2025, at Chiang Mai Boys Home in Don Kaeo Subdistrict, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, Assistant Professor Somkiat Wongphanich, Vice President for Administration of Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), and Assistant Professor Dr. Worachak Mueangchai, Head of the Under the Royal Patronage Planning Group, together with the project team, represented the university in donating pesticide-free rice from the Na Pan Suk project at the Sufficiency Economy Learning Centre, RMUTL, Doi Saket, along with essential consumer goods and food supplies to support the children under the care of Chiang Mai Boys Home.

The donated supplies were made possible through the generous contributions of RMUTL administrators, lecturers, staff, and students. The initiative continued the spirit of sharing through the activity Vegetables from the Heart: Sharing as a Thank You, organized on 14 July 2025 in collaboration with farmers from the Huai Siao Royal Project Development Centre network, represented by Mr. Wittaya Chakchuphat. The participating farmers donated 500 kilograms of bok choy to RMUTL staff and students as a gesture of appreciation.
This collaboration grew out of a community development project implemented during 20212022, under the supervision of the Huai Siao Royal Project Development Centre in Ban Pong Subdistrict, Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai Province. The project was funded by the Under the Royal Patronage Planning Group, with Assistant to the President Dr. Sasiphat Sangkongkit serving as project coordinator.
The initiative demonstrates how sustained universitycommunity collaboration can foster self-reliance and create a culture of sharing. By distributing agricultural produce and essential supplies to those in need, RMUTL contributes to addressing hunger and improving food security among vulnerable groups, while supporting Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2): Zero Hunger, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
