Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) advances SDG 15 through an area-based approach that integrates education, applied research, academic services, and community engagement to support the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Across Northern Thailand, the University works with local communities, government agencies, and specialised organisations to restore forest landscapes, promote sustainable land management, strengthen environmental knowledge, and develop community capacity for long-term natural resource management.
A major focus is the restoration and sustainable management of forest and watershed ecosystems. In Nan Province, RMUTL has participated in the “Three Forests, Four Benefits – One Million Rai” initiative, which has been implemented since 2022 to support watershed forest restoration, soil and water conservation, and community participation in forest management. RMUTL Nan contributes academic knowledge, personnel, and university resources to support the development of demonstration areas that can serve as learning models for wider adoption by local communities. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with Nan provincial authorities, forestry and conservation agencies, educational institutions, and local communities.
