Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) exemplifies its commitment to meaningful sustainability education by engaging students in hands-on activities that embody the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through its Creative Engineering for Sustainable Development Center, RMUTL has launched initiatives that actively involve students in environmental conservation and community well-being. During the “Tree-Walk Ceremony,” students not only participated in planting trees as an offering but also collaborated with local environmental volunteers to clean up the surrounding area, removing litter and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment. This activity combined cultural reverence with sustainable practices, allowing students to honor the Buddhist holiday Makha Bucha while contributing positively to the local ecosystem.
In addition to planting trees and cleaning up the area, students also engaged in discussions and workshops focused on environmental stewardship, organized by the university in partnership with the Tree Planting and Dhamma Foundation. These sessions provided students with practical knowledge on ecological conservation and methods to reduce waste, both in their daily lives and within their communities. RMUTL encourages students to take these experiences and apply them across diverse contexts, thus broadening the impact of sustainability education to all fields of study. By integrating these experiential learning opportunities, RMUTL not only enhances students’ understanding of the SDGs but also empowers them to take concrete, impactful actions that contribute to sustainable development both on and off campus.
