Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) collaborated with Nanhua University (NHU), Taiwan, in the Slow Movement x Design Thinking Workshop 2025, held from 5–17 November 2025.
The programme involved 11 RMUTL students and five faculty members working alongside international participants to explore community development challenges through field studies, local observations, and interdisciplinary discussions.
The international teams examined four communities in Taiwan: Dalin, Luman, Pinglin, and Mayuan. Their activities addressed sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, agricultural practices, biodiversity conservation, and community well-being.
Through field-based learning and community engagement, participants gathered qualitative insights into local conditions, identified development challenges, and considered possible solutions using the Design Thinking approach.
Working with Nanhua University allowed RMUTL participants to exchange observations and perspectives across cultural and academic backgrounds, strengthening their understanding of community sustainability challenges.
The workshop contributes to SDG 17.2.3 through international collaboration in gathering and examining community-level information related to sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, cultural heritage, and well-being. These collaborative field experiences demonstrate how universities can work across borders to develop locally grounded knowledge that informs sustainable community development.
